  • The LLM degree by thesis requires completion of a full-length research thesis (LAW 797) on a topic approved by the Postgraduate Committee.

  • Approval to undertake the degree by major thesis is normally given only where the student has completed the LLB (Hons) degree, or has a grade point average of B+, or equivalent.

120-Point Research Portfolio

The purpose of Research Portfolios is to accommodate those students who wish to engage in more sustained research than the taught programme offers, but who do not wish to write a thesis on a single topic. The subjects studied will need to have some connection to one another. The regulations allow some flexibility as to how the portfolio is made up, but standard structures are given below.

  • In general the portfolio comprises of the following: a student will audit three Postgraduate Law papers. They are then to write a 15,000 word research paper for each plus a bridging paper of 5-8,000 words that links the papers.
  • In addition you would be required to complete LAW788 Legal Research and Methodology in your first semester of enrolment

• Approval to undertake the degree by major thesis is normally given only where the student has completed the LLB (Hons) degree, or has a grade point average of B+, or equivalent.
