Profile

Dr Mousourakis' research and teaching interests are in the areas of Comparative Law, Criminal Law, Legal Theory and Legal History.

He recently published a book on Roman legal history under the title A legal history of Rome (Routledge, USA/UK, 2007). This book equips both lawyer and historian with a complete history of Roman law from its beginnings c700 BC through to its re-discovery in Europe where it was widely applied until the eighteenth century.

Other publications include a book on criminal law theory (Criminal responsibility and partial excuses, Dartmouth, 1998), a book on the historical foundations of the Roman and Civil law tradition (The historical and institutional context of Roman law, Ashgate, 2003), and a large number of articles, book chapters, book reviews and other works published internationally in English and other languages.

Prior to coming to Auckland in July 2000 Dr Mousourakis lectured in the School of Law at the University of Queensland in Australia. Moreover, he has held the positions of Visiting Professor, Research Fellow and Visiting Scholar at several universities around the world, including Niigata University, Waseda University, Kansai University, Kobe University, the University of Tokyo, the University of Kyoto, the University of Cambridge, Parma University, the Catholic University of Brussels, the European University Institute, the University of Munich, the University of Heidelberg, the University of Frankfurt, the University of Vienna, and the University of Arizona.

Dr Mousourakis is currently member of various academic and professional bodies and regularly invited to participate in national and international scholarly conferences and workshops.
