Pacific Islands Law Students Association (PILSA)
It is our mission to ensure the academic, cultural and social welfare of all Pacific Islands law students at The University of Auckland.
We are the Pacific Islands Law Students Association (PILSA), of The University of Auckland. It is our mission to ensure the academic, cultural and social welfare of all Pacific Islands law students at the University of Auckland. In order to achieve this undertaking we, the PILSA executive committee, provide and facilitate a variety of functions
for a holistic approach to the development of Pacific Island students, studying at the Faculty of Law.
Academic function
The PILSA executive works with the Pacific Islands Academic Coordinator to provide workshops, seminars and tutorials. The PILSA executive committee is also a link in a communication network between the PILSA members, the Pacific Islands Academic Coordinator, the Faculty of Law and Pacific Islands law graduates.
Cultural function
The PILSA executive committee organises a Cultural Day at the law faculty to enable Pacific Islands students to display their culture and cuisine to other students, inviting them to participate.
Social function
Early in the year the PILSA executive committee organises an orientation barbeque, in order to welcome new Pacific Islands students, and to encourage their participation in PILSA programmes. There are also three social functions hosted by PILSA throughout the year. Finally at the end of the year PILSA hosts an end of year function.
The end of year function is an opportunity to send off our graduates, as well as congratulating all our students for completing a long year of study, and of course to thank all our friends, family and supporters for their encouragement.
Recreational function
PILSA participates in sports against other University associations, such as sports days, indoor netball, touch and rugby league.
Participation in the community
PILSA is involved in a high schools outreach programme to encourage Pacific Islands students to study law.
