The Auckland Law School fielded four teams in the annual Australian Law Students Association (ALSA) conference attended by 450 students from 40 law schools from Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia.

Three of the four Auckland teams reached the quarter-finals of their events and two of these made it through to their respective finals. Marcus Playle won the final of the witness examination competition, winning the Witex Shield, and Hamish Saunders and Josh Baxter were runners-up in the negotiation competition.

Brierley Penn and Danielle Houghton made it through to the quarter-finals in the mooting competition, the best result of any of the New Zealand teams.

As a result of its teams’ successes, the University of Auckland was the top performing New Zealand University, and one of the top performing universities overall.

Dean Andrew Stockley congratulated all of the Auckland Law School teams and in particular Marcus Playe for winning the Australian witness examination competition and Josh Baxter and Hamish Saunders for reaching the final of the negotiation competition.
