2013 Law Student Awards

The Auckland Law School held an awards ceremony on Friday 10 May to recognise prize and scholarship recipients, the winners of mooting and other student competitions, and law student leaders.

Dean Andrew Stockley presented over 100 awards. The Fowlds Memorial Prize for the best LL.M. was won by Isaac Hikaka and the Auckland District Law Society Prize for the top law undergraduate was awarded to James Ruddell. James was one of seven Senior Scholars in Law, the others being Hamish Becket, Nicola Brazendale, Simon Collier, David Green, Bingqing Hu, and Robert Schultz.

Senior Lecturer Khylee Quince was presented with the 2012 Faculty of Law Teaching Excellence Award.

Over 400 people attended the awards ceremony, including members of the Faculty, students, their parents, members of the profession and the judiciary. A speech was given by Judge Claire Ryan, an Auckland alumnus, who congratulated all the award recipients and talked about the ways in which they could use their talents for the benefit of the profession and of society as a whole. In a well-received speech in which she talked about aspects of her life and work on the bench, she urged them to make a difference and to help those less able and fortunate than themselves.
