Law look to reclaim women’s basketball title

21 May 2012

The Faculty of Law will once again contest the women’s basketball finals, their third appearance in the competition’s three year history.

The Law School Lionesses have had a strong tournament to date, with a narrow win over NICAI and strong finals wins over Property and Commerce.

Arts’ road to the final has been a little more challenging having lost their pool match to Commerce and winning their quarter-final by default. The team did manage a strong semi-final win against Engineering so head into the finals with form.

The faculties are no strangers to meeting each other in the finals – the teams have both had three finals appearances to date and all three have been against each other, with each team enjoying victory, making this Friday’s match a decisive encounter for bragging rights.

“It’s great to have Law and Arts in the finals again,” says Nikki Henderson, Sport Development Manager at the University. “There is a good healthy rivalry between these faculties and with finals wins tied at one-a-piece, I’m sure Law will want to take the lead and bring up their first tournament win for the year.”

The women’s Interfaculty Basketball Final will be played at the Recreation Centre, with tip-off at 1pm. Those wishing to sit in the courtside bleachers are encouraged to register as seat numbers are limited.

The men’s final, between Commerce and Science, will follow the women’s match, starting at 3pm.
