Part of the Mai Chen Top Practitioners Series for students

Solicitor-General Una Jagose QC

Una Jagose QC is New Zealand’s 17th Solicitor- General, the Junior Law Officer of the Crown. After more than 25 years as a public sector lawyer, Una has learned a lot about leadership, about the law, and about herself. She will talk about the sometimes twisting path that has brought her to Solicitor-General, what insights she has gained along the way and what vision she has for serving the Crown, the rule of law and the people of New Zealand.

Una has an extensive career as a public sector lawyer having worked in four major government agencies prior to her appointment as Solicitor-General and Chief Executive of the Crown Law Office in February 2016. Una’s career as a public sector lawyer has given her a wealth of experience in providing focused and practical advice to assist Ministers and senior decisionmakers achieve their strategic goals, and also in advising Ministers and public sector organisations on a broad range of public law and constitutional matters.

During this one-hour, seminar-style Q&A, Mai Chen will interview Una on her career, which also included teaching the public law module for the Masters in Public Policy course at Victoria University’s School of Government.
